In episode 4, we sat down with Ashley and Gabe Rodriguez, a lovely artsy couple whose marriage birthed one of our favorite new cookbooks. Gabe is a very talented photographer who owns his own photography business with his brother Boone. Together they travel around Seattle and Portland telling people's stories by capturing weddings, engagements, and families. Ashley is a food consultant, cooking instructor, food photographer, creator of the blog Not Without Salt and, most recently, author of Date Night In, a collection of 25 seasonal dates that tells the story of her relationship with Gabe and how they were able to rekindle their romance at home through food. They have been married almost ten years and are raising their three young kids in the Seattle area.
We had a great time chatting with them about food, photography, romance, marriage, and family. Halfway through, we mention Molly Wizenberg, Brandon Pettit, and their Seattle pizza restaurant Delancey. Ashley and Gabe also recommend their favorite Seattle restaurants to us: Essex, Le Pichet, the local Original Pancake House, and The Walrus and the Carpenter, At the end, we discuss a couple quotations from Timothy Keller's The Meaning of Marriage, a great book we highly recommend to both singles and couples.
We hope you enjoy our conversation. Please join in and let us know what you like doing and eating on your date nights in!
